The December 31st Weekly Three:

  • Maine has joined Colorado in deeming Trump ineligible to be on their general election ballot.

  • The Pop Tarts sponsored college football bowl game ended with the macabre, ritualistic sacrifice of a life size pop tart, in which the winning team toasted and consumed the human-sized pop tarts mascot. I am not making this up.

  • If money were no object, 64% of Americans would quit their job tomorrow, per Empower.

The Mouse

The 90’s and early 2000’s era of Pixar and Disney animated movies essentially shaped my childhood. An era before, movies like Peter Pan and Cinderella similarly grabbed the attention of an older generation. But whatever magic Disney has left in its reserves seems to be all but depleted. From once being viewed as a source of childlike wonder and magic, Disney is now The Mouse: an intimidating and malevolent entity whose leadership is comprised of litigious corporate lawyers, eagerly hunting trademark infringements like a hound out for blood.

Disney has grown immensely over the past few decades, acquiring the greatest media portfolio on the market, ranging from Marvel Studios to Lucasfilm, to even ESPN; Basically becoming the media conglomerate equivalent of a Russian Oligarch.

Yet historical success aside, Disney appears culturally rotten at its core. Their latest track record indicates grubby corporate suit meddling and executives chasing pop culture trends to exact as much $$$ as possible from a story. The creators who used to weave youthful magic into creative premises are no longer at the wheel.
